What does technical translation involve?
Technical translation refers to the process of translating documents that contain information related to science, technology and engineering. This type of translation is a specialized form of technical communication and involves understanding the source text (the document being translated), as well as the context in which it was written. Technical translation can be particularly challenging due to the fact that there are often no translations available for technical terms or phrases in other languages.
Qualifications of technical translator
Technical translators must have an extensive knowledge of both the source language (the language you are translating from) and the target language (the language you are translating into). They should also have an understanding of both technical terminology and colloquial speech, as well as a familiarity with writing styles used by different professions (for example: engineers will use a different style than doctors).
